Prof. Noel-Ann Bradshaw

Deputy Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Science, University of Greenwich, U.K.


Noel-Ann Bradshaw has been involved with the University of Greenwich since 2004 when she started her BSc Mathematics degree as a mature student.  She has delivered a wide range of teaching in mathematics, computing and operational research as well as held several roles including Admissions and New Arrivals Tutor for the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and Director of Employability for the Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Humanities. She has also spent time in Industry as a Senior Data Scientist of a large retail chain and at London Metropolitan University as Head of School of Computing and Digital Media.


Her research interests include all things data-related, including Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.  She is also known for her research on Florence Nightingale’s contribution to statistics and use and management of data. She has also contributed to pedagogical mathematical research and many of her curriculum innovations such as the Maths Arcade and undergraduate conference Tomorrow’s Mathematicians Today, have been taken up by other universities and organisations.

Prof. George Du Wencai

Professor Dr. George (Wencai) Du is the Dean and Director of the Institute of Data Engineering and Sciences (IDEAS) and is a lifelong scholar. He earned his bachelor's degree in geodynamics from Peking University in 1978 and two Master's degrees from Hohai University in 1986 and in computer sciences from Twente University, Netherlands in 1996, respectively. George Du registered his doctoral study at the University of Adelaide in 1996, then transferred his study to the University of Queensland and the University of South Australia following his supervisor’s transfer, finally earning his PhD in Informatics in 1999. George Du was Chair Professor (2017-2021) and Founding Director of the Institute of Data Science at the City University of Macau (2017-2019) and Founding Director of the Macao Big Data Research Centre for Urban Governance (2017-2021). During his tenure at City University, Chair Professor Du created and taught on Master’s and doctoral programs in Data Science, together with working on advanced research projects with specialist teams and post‑doctorate staff. Before coming to City University, George Du served as Dean of the College of Information Science & Technology at Hainan University for thirteen years, where he first proposed the concept of Maritime Communication and founded the research field of this subject; he also created doctoral programs in Communication and Information Systems, as well as serving as Director of the Hainan Province Research Center for Ocean Communication and Network Engineering (2005-2019) and as Director of the Institute of Information Science and Technology, Hainan University (2005-2015). 


His main research areas include ccomputer sciences, communication and information systems, data sciences, and artificial intelligence, recently, with special interests in social media sentiment analysis, machine learning, smart elderly care, and data analytics. He has published over 176 academic articles in national and international journals and international conference proceedings in the last ten years, published 20 books and 6 book chapters, and earned one international invention patent and 15 national invention patents.

Prof. George Loukas

Head, Centre for Sustainable Cyber Security, University of Greenwich, U.K.


George Loukas is a Professor of Cyber Security with particular interest in human-centric, applied and data-driven cyber security applications in cyber-physical environments. His research has been supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the European Commission, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the UK Ministry of Defence and the British Council. Some highlights include the coordination of project EUNOMIA which developed the first social media platform that helps users tell the trustworthiness of what they share through it, and project CHAI which developed the first mechanism assisting users in telling whether their smart home AI has been compromised. Professor Loukas has a PhD in Network Security from Imperial College. He is on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security. He has previously been on the editorial board of BCS's The Computer Journal and Elsevier's Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory, as well as founding member of the IEEE working group on Internet of Things and Cultural Heritage. His 2015 book on cyber-physical attacks has been adopted in the curricula of universities internationally and was included in ACM’s top 10 of computing Milieux books and articles published that year.

Prof. Valentina Emilia Balas

Valentina E. Balas is currently Full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad, Romania. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Electronics and Telecommunications from Polytechnic University of Timisoara. Dr. Balas is author of more than 350 research papers. Her research interests are in Intelligent Systems, Fuzzy Control, Soft Computing. She is the Editor-in Chief to IJAIP and to IJCSysE, and is evaluator expert for national, international projects. Dr. Balas is the director of Intelligent Systems Research Centre in Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad and Director of the Department of International Relations. She served as General Chair of SOFA conferences in nine editions organized in the interval 2005-2020 and held in Romania and Hungary. Dr. Balas participated in many international conferences as Organizer, Honorary Chair, Session Chair, member in Steering, Advisory or International Program Committees and Keynote Speaker. She is a member of EUSFLAT, member of SIAM and a Senior Member IEEE, member in TC Fuzzy Systems (IEEE CIS), chair of the Task Force 14 in TC Emergent Technologies (IEEE CIS), member in TC Soft Computing (IEEE SMCS). Dr. Balas was past Vice-president ( Awards) of IFSA -(2013-2015), is a Joint Secretary of the Governing Council of Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics. She is the recipient of the "Tudor Tanasescu" Prize from the Romanian Academy for contributions in the field of soft computing methods (2019) and “Stefan Odobleja” Prize from Romanian Academy of Scientists (2023).

He has accumulated over 30 years of expertise in the development and practical implementation of computer-based solutions, particularly focusing on Computational Modelling. His strengths include exceptional computational proficiency, underpinned by a robust understanding of both physical and mathematical modelling principles. He boasts a long history of successfully developing and employing cutting-edge CFD software, harnessing sophisticated numerical methodologies and algorithms. Through the course of his professional journey, he has been involved in utilizing, creating, and tailoring CFD software for numerous application sectors. Furthermore, his repertoire encompasses an expansive knowledge of process modelling as well as hands-on experience within the realm of Fire Safety modelling.

Prof. Ciprian Daniel Neagu

Ciprian Daniel Neagu was appointed Professor of Computing with the University of Bradford in 2011: he joined the Department of Computer Science as Lecturer in 2002, and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2005. He has previously served as Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Galati, Romania (1993-2001).Professor Neagu has 20+ years of funded research leadership. He is AI Research (AIRE) Group Leader, academic liaison for Turing University Network, Academic Coordinator for Exchange Studies in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, active speaker on Responsible AI, SAFI lead for Big Data Statistical and Machine Learning Applications. His research focuses on fundamental approaches for Responsible and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence, and applications in Digital Technologies for Engineering, Product Safety, Toxicology, Healthcare, Social Media, BIMs and Arts. This research has been motivated by his desire to advance the AI field by studying systems from rigorous computational and philosophical perspectives. The main theme throughout his academic work is to develop models of multidisciplinary information systems by the fusion of know-what, know-how and computational information. He strongly believes Computer Science is now media for knowledge acquisition, analysis, design, and validation to serve responsibly sustainable aims that play vital roles in the progress of science and society.

Assoc. Prof. Wim JC Melis

Dr Melis is an Associate Professor of Holistic Design at the University of Greenwich, where he previously worked as a Senior Lecturer (2011-2019) and also obtained his PGCert in Higher Education. Before that, he worked at the European Patent Office as a patent examiner (The Hague, The Netherlands, 2005-2011) and was a COE Fellow at Tohoku University (Sendai, Japan, 2008-2009).


He obtained his PhD in Digital Systems – Computing at Imperial College London (Department of EEE, London, UK) for a thesis with title: 'Memory Architectures for Reconfigurable Computers' (2001-2004) after receiving an MSc (Distinction) in Analogue and Digital Integrated Circuit Design from the same institution/department (2000-2001). His first degree was as an industrial engineer in electronics (Option Design Technologies) from KHBO - KIHWV; Oostende; Belgium (MSc) (1996-2000).

Prof. Simon Xu

Dr. Simon Xu is a Full Professor and Director in the School of Computer Science and Technology at Algoma University where he has been a faculty member since 2002. Prior to his tenure at Algoma University, he was working in the School of Computer Science of University of Windsor, Canada. Additionally, he serves as a guest professor at Wuhan University and the adjunct professor at China University of Mining and Technology, China.


Dr. Xu earned his Ph.D. degrees from Wayne State University, in the United States, and the University of Liege in Belgium. His research focuses on software evolution, program comprehension, big data, and cognitive process during software development. 

Dr. Xu has published more than 90 articles in referred journals and conference proceedings and a few authored/co-authored books. He has chaired seven IEEE international conferences and has been invited to deliver keynotes at various IEEE conferences. He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of ACM.

Prof. Huiyu Zhou

Prof. Huiyu Zhou received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Radio Technology from Huazhong University of Science and Technology of China and a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Dundee of United Kingdom, respectively. He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computer Vision from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom, supervised by Professors Patrick Green (Psychology) and Andrew Wallace (Computer Engineering). Prof. Zhou heads the AI and Machine Learning Group and leads the Biomedical Image Processing Lab (BIPL) at University of Leicester. He was Director of MSc Programme (2018-2019) and Coordinator of MSc Distance Learning at Informatics (2018-2022), and is PGR Director of CMS, Deputy Director of Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and Modelling (AIDAM) and Member of the Executive Group of Apollo-Leicester Centre for Digital Health and Precision Medicine. Prior to this appointment, he worked as Reader (2018-2020) at University of Leicester, and Lecturer (2012-2017) at the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Queen's University Belfast (QUB). He was a visiting scholar of QUB during 2018-2020. Prof. Zhou has published widely in the field. He was the recipient of "CVIU 2012 Most Cited Paper Award", "MIUA2020 Best Paper Award", "ICPRAM 2016 Best Paper Award in the Area of Applications" and was shortlisted for "ICPRAM 2017 Best Student Paper Award" and "MBEC 2006 Nightingale Prize".

I am Dr Georgios (George) Dafoulas, a Professor of Information Systems and Business Computing in the Faculty of Science and Technology at Middlesex University. I have led more than twenty externally funded projects and participated in many more as a co-investigator. I have been successful in attracting funding at national and international level and managing projects as a principal investigator, project manager and work package coordinator. I have worked with a wide range of funding bodies including EU programmes (frameworks, Erasmus+, Capacity Building in Higher Education, Tempus, Socrates, Minerva), British Council, JISC, US’s NSF, AUNP, ERDF, EPSRC, ESRC, and the DTI. My published works include six books and learning guides, as well as more than 150 research papers in refereed journals and peer-reviewed international conferences, mainly in the fields of information systems, computer-supported cooperative work, e-learning, educational technologies and human issues in software engineering. I am well known for my expertise in applications of digital technology in education and business, while my work on innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship pioneered knowledge transfer initiatives in more than twenty countries. My collaborations with industry span across several sectors, with various activities over the years including partners such as BT and IBM. I am regularly invited to deliver key note speeches and participate in expert panels and plenaries. I frequently serve as a member of editorial boards and journal reviewing committees, as well as a member of organising and programme committees for international conferences.

Prof. Xiaoyi Zhou

Professor Zhou Xiaoyi, doctoral supervisor, top talent in Hainan Province. During the master's degree, he mainly studied cryptography, and during the doctoral degree, he mainly studied image encryption and information hiding.


So far, she has presided over/participated in more than 20 projects including national key research and development projects, National Natural Science Foundation projects, and Hainan key research and development projects. She has published more than 60 academic papers in core journals, international conferences and CCF recommended journals/conferences at home and abroad, and independently published one English monograph. In recent years, her research interests have focused on multimedia security and artificial intelligence security based on cryptography and information hiding

At the same time, he has guided undergraduate and graduate students to publish nearly 20 international academic papers, and guided graduate students to win 1 national scholarship, 1 international conference best paper award and 1 best student paper award. In recent years, as the project leader, he has presided over 2 national projects, 6 provincial and ministerial projects, and 2 talent plan projects. The project cost exceeded millions. As a core member of the project (ranking the top three), I participated in 7 national projects and 3 provincial and ministerial projects.

Dr Irfan Chishti has over 20 years of teaching experience in the higher education and has a fellow membership of Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He joined University of Greenwich in 2012 as a visiting lecturer in the School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences (CMS). Irfan is an experienced educationist and entrepreneur who has established and successfully managing a few higher education institutions in London. He has recently competed his PhD in Computer Science from University of Westminster.
